PRODUCTION: EDITING

To create the flashback scenes and to make them look more dramatic I colour graded my footage to make them black and white. This is to make it easier for the audience to differentiate the flashbacks from the other 'present day' footages. I played around with the RGB curves and this helped me get a vignette effect around the edges of the video.

Increasing my exposure and contrast slightly made my black and white clip pop out even further. I decreased the 'white' level so that it isn't too bright.

To create this obtrusive editing that merges two clips together, I simply layered the two different footages on top of one another– along with the cross dissolve transition. This gave a much smoother look to the sequence and made it look less snappy.

For the title itself, I used several different tools to give the handwritten effect. I had to apply a transparent video and a track matte. I also dragged in the handwritten effect from the effects panel. Using the track matte, I traced each letter separately and then I nested the sequence. Nesting the sequence made the timeline look less crowded and made it look more organised and manageable.
